In a move to elevate the competence of School Support Officers (SSOs) within the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, the FCT Universal Basic Education Board, in collaboration with the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) and the National Institute for Educational Planning and Administration, orchestrated a comprehensive training program. The workshop, held at the Skill ‘G’ Centre, JSS Hajj Camp, Gwagwalada, FCT, Abuja, from Monday, 11th to Friday, 15th December 2023, saw the participation of 70 dedicated School Support Officers.

Under the theme “Training of UBEB and LEA Quality Assurance Officers on School-Based Training Activities,” the program aimed to equip SSOs with the requisite knowledge and skills for optimal service delivery in the education sector.

The workshop covered a diverse range of topics essential for SSOs, including building effective relationships with Head Teachers and Teachers, employing School Support Monitoring Instruments, and conducting school support visits and lesson observations. The training also delved into strategies for improving classroom practices, strengthening school leadership, and fostering collaboration between schools and communities.

Facilitated by Dr. Mrs. Grace Omiyale and Dr. Nojeem Oresajo from the National Institute for Educational Planning and Administration (NIEPA), Ondo, the workshop adopted an engaging format, incorporating group work, plenary discussions, case studies, and experiential learning.
