Ekiti State Universal Basic Education Board has continued the digitalization of the basic education sector in Ekiti State with another 12-day BESDA Attendance Management Information System (BAMIS) training workshop.

BAMIS application system according to Ekiti SUBEB Executive Chairman, Prof Akinwumi Femi Sunday, aims at boosting Teachers’ digital skills, service delivery, and efficiency in basic education. He said this during the distribution of no fewer than 1103 tablet devices to public primary and junior secondary schools across the State.

Presenting the tablets to Teachers at the opening ceremony held at Pope John Paul Pastoral Centre, Ikerre Road on Thursday 11 January 2024, the SUBEB boss informed that the devices once connected to the BAMIS (BESDA Attendance Management Information System) application, would aid the teachers and administrators in tracking learners’ attendance through a proper digital attendance monitoring system.

Akinwunmi added that the training on the BAMIS system would go a long way to eliminating or greatly reducing of school children phenomenon in the state. He thanked the Executive Governor of Ekiti State, His Excellency Biodun Oyebanji for his support towards the success of the programme and also, for his prompt action towards the development of the education sector in the state.

Also speaking at the flag-off ceremony, The Ag. Director General NIEPA Ondo, Dr. David Shofoyeke opined that it was imperative to train the participants on the use of the application as the system enables teachers and school administrators to monitor learners’ attendance in real-time and with the use of the distributed smart tablet devices, the system collects attendance records, manages, stores and process data.

Represented by Dr. Mrs. Lara Ogunsola, he harped on the importance of professionalism and continuous skill acquisition in the teaching profession, stressing that it was imperative to provide teachers with adequate working tools and for teachers to be trained and retrained on modern teaching and monitoring methods.

Some of the participants interviewed by NIEPA New Media Officer, Bodunde Tenabe at some of the centers in Ado-Ekiti, Ikere Ekiti, and Aramoko commended the State Governor His Excellency Biodun Oyebanji, and Ekiti SUBEB for initiating the laudable program, stating that the high–tech digital tablets given to them would be put to conscientious use for the development of basic education in Ekiti State.

They also applauded the resource persons from the National Institute for Educational Planning and Administration (NIEPA) Ondo for their expertise and simplifying the concept behind the tablet’s usage.
