NIEPA Registry Holds In-House Training Workshop, Ag. DG Charges Staff on Productivity
The Registry Department of the National Institute for Educational Planning and Administration (NIEPA) held a 2-day in-house training workshop on file and records management for senior registry staff. The workshop, which took place on June 4-5, 2024, at the New Training Hall of NIEPA, aimed to enhance the capacity of staff towards improved productivity.
Acting Director-General and Chief Executive Officer, Dr. David Shofoyeke, speaking at the opening of the workshop, charged the participants to embrace the training as a vital tool for enhancing their performance. He emphasized the importance of effective file and records management in achieving the Institute’s goals and eventual digital migration of the Registry. Dr. Shofoyeke urged the staff to be committed to their duties, stressing that “productivity is key to achieving success in any organization.”
In his welcome address, the Acting Registrar of NIEPA, Dr. Festus Olaolu, appreciated the efforts of the Ag. Director-General in repositioning the Institute since he came on board. He commended Dr. Shofoyeke for his tireless efforts in revitalizing the Institute’s infrastructure, renovating the training halls, and providing a conducive working and learning environment. Dr. Olaolu also acknowledged the Ag. Director-General’s commitment to staff development, noting that the training workshop is a testament to his dedication to enhancing the capacity of staff. He encouraged staff to shun acts that could hinder progress and embrace tolerance and forgiveness to achieve the Institute’s goals. He further explained that the workshop will cover topics such as the importance of file and records management, classification and categorization of files, file movement and tracking, and records management techniques. Dr. Olaolu also emphasized the importance of effective records management in achieving the Institute’s mandate, noting that accurate and up-to-date records are essential for a functional Registry.
Throughout the training session, the resource person, Mr. Sani Tukur, an Assistant Director in the Federal Ministry of Education, Abuja, delivered a comprehensive and engaging training session on best practices in file and records management. The sessions were interactive, with participants actively engaging in discussions and sharing experiences, creating a dynamic and collaborative learning environment.
At the end of the two-day workshop, the Deputy Registrar coordinating the Institute’s liaison offices, Mr. Alade Afolabi, appreciated the Institute’s management, resource person, and participants for their active engagement, promising to apply the knowledge and skills acquired in their duties.
The New Media Officer of the Institute, Mr. Bodunde Tenabe, who briefed news men at the close of the event, noted that the training workshop demonstrates NIEPA’s commitment to capacity building and staff development, aligning with the Federal Government’s performance management system (PMS) initiative.
