NIEPA Conference on Quality Assurance Closes with Call for Improved Education Sector

Ondo, Nigeria – The 5-day annual conference of Quality Assurance Officers from federal and state ministries of education, parastatals, and agencies has ended at the corporate headquarters of the National Institute for Educational Planning and Administration (NIEPA), Ondo with a call for improved education sector performance and delivery.

The conference, themed “Sustainable Development Goals, Quality Assurance Practices, and Reports Utilization in Enhancing Improvement of Education Delivery in Nigeria,” aimed at achieving the Sustainable Development Goal 4 (SDG4) through effective quality assurance practices.

Seasoned experts at the conference identified key challenges facing the education sector to include; inadequate training and retraining of teachers and quality assurance officers, overcrowded classrooms, underfunding of quality assurance activities, and limited capacity and resources in some schools.

To address these challenges, the conference made several recommendations, including training and retraining of teachers and quality assurance officers, institutionalization of unified continuous assessment, effective collaboration, and establishment of robust quality assurance departments.

As Nigeria embarks on the Renewed Hope Agenda under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, participants at the conference expressed optimism that the recommendations from the gathering would contribute to the transformative change envisioned for the education sector. They urged policymakers to harness the insights from the conference to drive meaningful reforms, improve quality assurance practices, and ultimately unlock the full potential of Nigeria’s education system.
