NIEPA HOLDS WORKSHOP ON EFFECTIVE COMMUNICATION FOR INSTITUTIONAL SUCCESS
The National Institute of Educational Planning and Administration (NIEPA) recently organized an in-house workshop on “Effective Communication for Institutional Success” for its senior staff, as part of efforts to enhance the capacity of its workforce and strengthen the system.
Speaking at the event, Dr. Festus Olaolu, Institute Registrar and representative of the Acting Director General, Dr. David Shofoyeke, emphasized the importance of developing a skilled and productive workforce, given NIEPA’s international recognition as a training outfit. He reiterated the management’s commitment to providing ongoing training programmes that will benefit the entire workforce, including its liaison office staff spread across the country.
According to Dr. Olaolu, “As a training institution, we must ensure that our staff possesses the necessary skills and knowledge to effectively plan and manage education systems.” He added that the workshop on “Effective Communication for Institutional Success” is a crucial step in achieving this goal, as it will equip staff with the communication skills necessary to work efficiently and effectively.
Dr. Olaolu also highlighted the significance of effective communication in achieving institutional success, stating that it is essential for building strong relationships, resolving conflicts, and achieving organizational goals. He encouraged staff to take advantage of the workshop and apply the skills learned to improve their performance and contribute to the overall success of the Institution.
Prof. Bunmi Idowu, the guest facilitator for the programme and Dean of the Faculty of Education and Humanities at Babcock University, commended NIEPA for the opportunity to facilitate the workshop. She highlighted the significance of effective communication, emphasizing its conventional and strategic nature in achieving institutional success.
The workshop’s business sessions, led by Prof. Idowu and ably assisted by Drs. Sunday Adegbesan and Opeyemi Oyekan from the Training and Research Department, focused on practical, experiential, and participatory approaches to effective communication. Topics covered included “Common Errors in Communication and Implications on Corporate Image.”
Notable attendees, including Deputy Registrars Mrs. Folayemi Akinladejo, Sumbo Ogunsola, and Ugo Nwosu, as well as Deputy Bursar Mr. Bola Adejori, commended the management for organizing the workshop. Mrs. Akinladejo noted that the workshop was timely and relevant, saying, “Effective communication is key to achieving our goals and objectives as an institution. I’m glad we’re taking steps to enhance our communication skills.” Mrs. Ogunsola added, “This workshop has reminded us of the importance of clarity and concision in our communication. We must ensure that our messages are clear, concise, and free of errors.”
Participants, including Mrs. Motilayo Oladele from the Registry Department and Mr. Dele Abiodun of the Bursary Department, were full of praise for the management’s efforts in developing their capacity. Mrs. Oladele said, “I have learned the importance of active listening and asking clarifying questions in communication. I plan to apply this skill in my unit to ensure that we are all on the same page and working towards the same goals.” Mr. Abiodun added, “The workshop has shown me how to craft effective messages that resonate with our audience. I will use this skill to enhance the communication image of my department and the Institute at large.”
According to information released to newsmen by the Institute’s Media Officer, Mr. Bodunde Tenabe, this workshop demonstrates NIEPA’s dedication to enhancing its workforce’s communication skills, aligning with its mandate to develop a critical mass of education sector planners and managers.
