Estate Works & Services (EWS)

NIEPA is a reputable institute that is known for excellence. The Institute was conceived as a sub-regional Staff college to develop a critical mass of education sector planners and managers for the effective and efficient planning and management of the educational system through capacity building- continuous training, consulting, research, information dissemination and resource Centre services.
In fulfilling the mandate above, Estate, Works and Services departments in the institute that plays a major role in contributing towards making the vision of founding NIEPA a reality.
The department has basically six (6) Units namely; (1) Garden and Parks (2) Electrical (3) Transport (4) Civil & Building (5) Facility (6) Mechanical. It is generally saddled with responsibilities of provision of basic utilities such as water and electricity. It also engages in management of Estates, maintenance and cleaning of various facilities and ensuring the provision and maintenance of conducive environment for the institute.
The institute (NIEPA) is located on a vast expanse of land along Laje Road. The land area is large and only a very small portion is developed and fenced round for use. Infrastructurally, the compound is beautiful; it has a chain of offices and meeting rooms all erected on a well landscaped land.
The department provides a conducive environment to enhance a good work habit and contribute to the success of workshop, seminars, conference, and other educational programs. These maintenance activities are carried out through with the use of modern tools and equipment. For instance, the institute has a Tractor that is coupled with a slasher which the department uses to clear the grasses from time to time.
Besides, the department ensure the workability of various facilities and carry out maintenance of structures and facilities there-in. The structures of the institute include: Conference Hall, Auditorium, Syndicate rooms, Offices, Guest Houses, Consultancy Quarters and Staff Quarters.
There are certain things that human life depends on such a s water and electricity (light). Estate, Works and Services department ensures provision and maintenance of utilities and the equipment thereof. NIEPA has mainly a 500KVA Perkins generator and other smaller generators all which are made available to supplement the erratic power supply from BEDC (electricity distribution company). It also has bore-holes that are of industrial and commercial types which are strategically located with storage tanks that supply water to various offices and quarters.
Furthermore, the department contributes to the postulation of useful data such as bill of quantities during budget preparation and monitor and the execution of capital projects in NIEPA.
Mobility is highly essential in every organization. Estate, Works and Services department ensures the provision and maintenance of transport facilities. The Institute has fleet of vehicles which aids the movement of human and material resources especially during workshop outside the Institute.
Also, since a dirty environment breed pathogenic bacterial which lead to diseases and sicknesses, the department also maintain all the facilities, offices, halls in and out on daily basis cleaning in order to maintain a clean conducive environment.
Estate, Works and Services department has experienced Staff in various fields of engineering and technical knowledge that are vast in their expertise and work harmoniously and therefore, contribute positively to the growth and development of the Institute.
 
ELECTRICAL UNIT
 Job Specification
  1. Operation & maintenance of Generator sets
  2. Maintenance & Cleaning of Electrical Appliances
  3. Clearing and maintenance of bushes under the low & High tension (LT) (HT)
  4. Maintenance of Institute bore hole electrical aspect
  5. Maintenance of 500KVA Transformer
  6. Maintenance of Electrical & Electronics in the Institute.
TRANSPORT UNIT
 Job Specification
  1. Driving of principal and management Staff of the Institute
  2. Conveyance of Staff to venue of workshops, conference, seminars etc.
  3. Maintenance of all Institute vehicles.
  4. Conveyance of Staff to meeting and any location as approved by the Institute management.
CIVIL AND BUILDING UNIT
Job Specification
  1. Repair of damages in building
  2. Supervise and monitor construction works
  3. Prepare cost estimate for major and minor maintenance/repair works in building
  4. Prepare Bill of Quantities for capital project and any other projects
  5. Prepare valuation for on-going projects.
  6. Prepare monitoring/evaluations report on projects.
  7. Execute minor repair/maintenance works.
 
FACILITY UNIT
Job Specification
  1. Detection of fault thereby making repair on Institute facilities.
  2. Recovering of Institute Furniture that are carelessly placed to a safe place.
  3. Preparation of halls/cleaning of halls and syndicate during and after conference, seminars and workshops.
  4. Arrangement and making of Conference Hall, Auditorium, Syndicate room ready for workshops
  5. Cleaning of all Institute Offices and environment on daily basis.
 
MECHANICAL UNIT
Job Specification
  1. Maintenance of water reticulation system in the Institute.
  2. Installation and Maintenance of borehole pumps in the Institute.
  3. Maintenance of Institute boreholes.
  4. Maintenance, repair and servicing of Institute air conditioners.
  5. Installation and repairs of AC.
 
GARDEN AND PARKS UNIT
Job Specification
  1. Clearing and lands capping of Institute environment
  2. Planting and maintenance of economic ornamental crops
  3. Allocation of land to interested tenants
  4. Timely tracing of Institute’s landed property to avoid encroachment.
  5. Maintenance of Gardening tools and machinery
  6. Fumigation of Institute buildings and environment.
  7. Supervision and moderation of activities of tenants on NIEPA landed property.
  8. Establishment and maintenance of oil-palm plantation.
