The ongoing digitalization of the Ekiti State Basic Education sector via the usage of the BAMIS application introduced by UBEC-BESDA, is a giant step in addressing the out-of-school children menace and other problems affecting the nation’s education sector. The programme which saw the National Institute for Educational Planning and Administration deplore from its vast and experienced pool of resource persons, traverse nine different centers spread across the three senatorial districts of Ekiti State to train participants on the use of the application.

Speaking at the Ekiti Parapo College, Ido-Ekiti center through Dr. Samson Oyeromi, the Ag. Director General of the Institute, Dr. David Shofoyeke stated that the recent COVID-19 pandemic outbreak has offered the education sector in the country and world at large an incredible opportunity to fast-track the digital transformation of our education experience and offer new learning experiences that are much more aligned with the realities of today.

Shofoyeke further stated that “NIEPA under my watch is committed to improving the basic education sub-sector in Ekiti State and would continue to collaborate with the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC), Federal Ministry of Education (FME), various SUBEBs and all other Education stakeholders to improve the skills and capacity of administrators and teachers in the basic education sub-sector in the State”. We began the digitalization process in Ondo State in December 2023 and we are here in Ekiti State in January 2024. I urge other States in the country to through their Ministries of Education and SUBEBs to key into this commendable effort that aims to boost Teachers’ digital skills, service delivery, and efficiency in the basic education sector… he said.

Restating the prowess and competence of NIEPA, the Ekiti SUBEB Executive Chairman Professor Femi Akinwunmi at the Ado-Ekiti center stated, “I do not allow or engage quacks to train my teachers. I always get the best hands and when we talk about capacity building in the education sector in this country, you can count on NIEPA Ondo to deliver optimally”

The week-long distribution by the SUBEB Chairman to all public primary and junior secondary school teachers in Ekiti State at nine different centers namely: Ado-Ekiti, Ikere Ekiti, Ido-Osi, Aramoko, Ise, Emure, Ilejemeje, Ijero, Efon, Oye, Moba and Ikole will enable teachers and school administrators to monitor learners’ attendance in real-time and with the use of the distributed smart tablet devices. The system collects attendance records, and manages, stores, and processes the data.
