The Registry Department of the National Institute for Educational Planning and Administration (NIEPA) recently convened a pivotal meeting of unit heads, with the aim of bolstering the department’s operations and aligning with the Institute’s broader objectives. Welcoming all heads to the meeting, Registrar and Secretary to Council Dr. Festus Olaolu emphasized the importance of collaborative efforts in achieving the department’s objectives. He noted that this meeting, which would become a regular feature of the department, would provide a platform for unit heads to share ideas, address challenges, and chart a path for enhanced performance.

Dr. Olaolu expressed confidence in the capacity and efficiency of the unit heads, noting their competence and ability to handle units even outside the Registry Department. Introducing the concept of Performance Management System (PMS), a new initiative by the Federal Ministry of Education, Dr. Olaolu briefed the unit heads on its significance, emphasizing that it has come to stay. He highlighted the importance of PMS in promoting transparency, efficiency, and merit-based progression not only within the Registry Department but across the entire Institute. Dr. Olaolu directed the heads of units to design job schedules for all staff members, which would serve as a crucial tool for promotion assessments. Furthermore, he instructed that job descriptions should be made available in their various units, ensuring clarity and specificity in staff roles and responsibilities.

The meeting featured briefings from the various unit heads, each providing insights into their operations, challenges, and potential solutions. Mr. Afolabi Alade of the Academic Division, Mr. Sylvester Inakoju of Industrial Staff and Labour Relations, Mrs. Folayemi Akinladejo of Council Matters & General Administration, Mrs. Olasumbo Ogunsola of the Establishment Unit, Mr. Ugo Nwosu, SERVICOM Focal Officer, Mr. Moses Eyeruroma of Staff Training and Development, Mr. Tenabe Bodunde, Institute Media Officer, and Mr. Abiola Abidoye of Management and Records, all shared their unit’s progress and challenges.

Notably, Mr. Ugo Nwosu and Mr. Tenabe Bodunde, though senior registry staff, head units outside the Registry Department, further underscoring the competence and versatility of registry staff, as earlier noted by Dr. Olaolu. The discussion provided a platform for the unit heads to identify areas of synergy, address bottlenecks, and explore strategies to enhance the overall efficiency and effectiveness of the Registry Department.

The initiative is expected to promote a culture of accountability and high performance within the Registry Department and the entire Institute, enhancing staff productivity, job satisfaction, and overall performance, aligning with NIEPA’s commitment to excellence.
