“Workers’ Day Celebrations: NIEPA Chapters of SSAUTHRIAI and NASU March in Solidarity”

To commemorate the 2024 Workers’ Day celebrations, members of the NIEPA Chapters of Senior Staff Association of Universities, Teaching Hospitals, Research Institutes and Allied Institutions (SSAUTHRIAI) and the Non-Academic Staff Union (NASU) came together for a march past at the Gani Fawehimi Freedom Park in Akure, the Ondo State capital. The event, held on May 1st, was a show of strength and solidarity among workers, as they marked the annual international day to recognize their contributions and sacrifices.
Dignitaries present at the celebrations included the governor of the State, His Excellency Lucky Ayedatiwa, his Deputy Dr. Owolabi Adelami, and other government functionaries.
Speaking on behalf of SSAUTHRIAI NIEPA Chapter, Comrade Durodola Sunday, who spoke to newsmen, saluted the courage of workers who brave all odds to deliver quality service at all times. He appreciated the Director General of the Institute for providing a good working environment for staff to thrive.
On the other hand, Comrade Ismail Salami, who serves as the NIEPA NASU Branch Chairman, admonished workers to continue to be dedicated and committed to their duties, despite the challenges they face. He also called on the government to address the lingering issues affecting workers, including payment of outstanding allowances and promotions.
The event featured a parade by the union members, who showcased their solidarity and unity, as well as a keynote address by the governor, who reiterated his administration’s commitment to workers’ welfare and development.
The Workers’ Day celebrations, marked on May 1st every year, is a global event aimed at recognizing the contributions and sacrifices of workers towards the development of their countries.
In attendance were also representatives of other labor unions, who joined in the celebration, solidarity messages, and calls for better working conditions and improved welfare for workers.
