NIEPA Strengthens Anti-Corruption Drive with ACTU Inauguration

The National Institute for Educational Planning and Administration (NIEPA) has taken a significant step towards promoting transparency and accountability with the inauguration of its Anti-Corruption and Transparency Unit (ACTU). The ceremony, held on Tuesday, August 27, 2024, at the Institute’s headquarters, marked the formal commencement of ACTU’s operations.

In his welcome address, Acting Director-General Dr. David Shofoyeke reaffirmed his support for ACTU’s objectives, highlighting his management’s efforts to reposition the Institute for greater productivity. He noted that NIEPA has finalized its Service Charter document and Strategic Action Plan to guide its operations. Shofoyeke pledged his commitment to ensuring ACTU’s smooth operations.

Representing the ICPC Chairman, Dr. Musa Adamu Aliyu, SAN, Resident Anti-Corruption Commissioner Mr. Kayode Olátúnjí Kupolati commended NIEPA’s management for its commitment to the anti-corruption crusade. He emphasized that ACTU’s establishment in 2001 aimed to sensitize staff against corruption, examine prone systems, and complement management efforts in fostering a positive anti-corruption culture. Kupolati urged NIEPA management to fully support ACTU, ensuring its success in promoting transparency and accountability within the Institute.

The inauguration ceremony also featured the administration of an oath to the ACTU NIEPA members by Assistant Chief Superintendent and Head of the Legal Unit of the ICPC Ondo Office, Barrister Kehinde Adetoye. He emphasized the importance of upholding ICPC principles and ethics in their duties, outlining their responsibilities and limitations.

The event included a lecture presentation by Mr. Jenmi Ganiu Owolabi on “Overview of ACTU Standing Order”, interactive sessions, and the launching of suggestion boxes to encourage anonymous feedback. Additionally, ICE materials were presented to the Institute management to support their anti-corruption efforts.

The newly inaugurated ACTU members include Dr. Samson Oyeromi as Chairman, Mrs. Olasumbo Ogunsola as Secretary, Engineer Francis Adetutu, Mrs. Ifedayo Semudara, Mrs. Adejoke Akinmejiwa, Mr. Adekunle Kode, and Mr. Rotimi Ikuerowo.

With this initiative, NIEPA has once again demonstrated its commitment to transparency and accountability, aligning with the Federal Government’s anti-corruption agenda. The newly inaugurated ACTU is poised to play a vital role in promoting ethical conduct and integrity within the Institute.

The Anti-Corruption and Transparency Unit (ACTU) was established in Ministries, Department and Agencies MDAs by the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission (ICPC) with a functional link to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the MDA.
